The Milky Way

The Milky Way is our home galaxy – a massive system of hundreds of billions of stars, gas, and dust, where the Sun is also located. When we look toward its dense central regions, we see a bright band in the sky – a view into the plane of the galactic disk.

Under good conditions, this band is visible to the naked eye, ideally in places with minimal light pollution. It is most prominent in summer, when the central part of the galaxy—rich in star clusters and nebulae—rises above the southeastern to southern horizon from our latitudes.

Even a standard mobile phone today can capture its delicate structure; all you need is a tripod and night mode with a longer exposure. The result is often a breathtaking photograph reminding us that we are just a small part of a massive galactic whole.
